So we become the largest U.S. city ever to have a gay mayor, and now Annise Parker is the highest ranking member of the LGBT community. Of all the cities, it was a Texas city. @_@

Who sleeps shall awake, greeting the shadows from the sun
Who sleeps shall awake, looking through the window of our lives
Waiting for the moment to arrive...
Show us the silence in the rise,
So that we may someday understand...

Re: Houston Elects an Openly Gay Mayor
You people never heard of US Representatives Barney Frank and Gerry Studds?
Re: Houston Elects an Openly Gay Mayor
Now if only an openly atheist person could be elected for something.
Re: Houston Elects an Openly Gay Mayor
Agreed. That's just an oxymoron.
Of all the cities, it was a Texas city. @_@

I was surprised to hear this too, but I've heard cities are usually far more accepting and progressive in the USA, no matter what colour the state is.

That's probably because it's comparatively easy to change out local politicians as opposed to those in state or federal offices. (Of course I live in the Chicago area... )I was surprised to hear this too, but I've heard cities are usually far more accepting and progressive in the USA, no matter what colour the state is.

Re: Houston Elects an Openly Gay Mayor
Cities in general tend to be fairly liberal in comparison to smaller towns and villages. It's probably down to a concentration of the educated middle classes or something sociopolitical like that.
If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place. (Revelation 2:5, NIV)

in at least five states, NC included, it's against the state constitution. I fact, we're on the list before pedophiles. Now if only an openly atheist person could be elected for something.
it goes something like this:
"The following people may not hold public office:
Firstly, those who do not believe in god.
Secondly, convicted felons
Thirdly, people who are mentally ill or something"
Meh, shes a lesbian.
Re: Houston Elects an Openly Gay Mayor
Well, during the last election when the votes were being tallied up by various places area by area within states, I remember rural districts tending to lean Republican being mentioned, even in blue states like New York. But since so much of the population of the state is in the city, which tends to vote Democratic, it didn't affect it a lot.HAHAHAHAHAHAhahahahahahahaI was surprised to hear this too, but I've heard cities are usually far more accepting and progressive in the USA, no matter what colour the state is.
that's a good one.

It'll never happen. Mark my words. By the time it's ready to happen, the human race will be so far gone that things like "elections" will be a strangely alien concept.
