He is quitting? :? I guess his brother can take over now, but why keep the embargo?

I don't get it...

What do you think?

The embargo is still in place because of who's replacing him. Namely, His brother, Raúl Castro.

To be fair, Fidel's only been in charge in name for the last few years because of his ailing health. Since 2001, if truth be told.

Can you help me out by sorting out the situation?

i imagine the embargo is simply to save face at this point...its been completely ineffective, and pointless for years.

and, i like to think americans would calm down a bit if they had a better selection of cigars.

Culturally, Cuba is one of the only places in the world that has been able to actively resist the Americanisation that inevitability follows joining the 'Global Community'. In that article, there is an innocent sounding, but terrifying phrase:

"The United States also has been working on plans for a post-Castro Cuba"

Egads.

There wasn't much of a reason to put the embargo in place, why should they get rid of it just because it makes no sense to keep it?

Without the embargo we could make em like us by making em like us.

This is true. Raul has pretty much been in power this entire time during Castro's illness. This just makes it official.

But doesn't everyone hate America?

Also, I wonder if assasination plans are underway for Raul and if so will he survive them as many times as Fidel did.

No.

The Government, and some of its policies...maybe just a scootch.

For me it's not so much consciously ignoring if it's American (or other nationality) made but that I've usually found better alternatives by others. Music is probably the only type of entertainment where the majority of the stuff I like is American.

America, like Cuba, are great examples of "good ideas getting out of hand"
