He was a pioneer in every sense of the word, he and Nepalese Sherpa Tenzing Norgay opened the door for many other people to climb Mt. Everest.
Rest In Peace, Sir Edmund Hillary!
Does anyone here want to remember him?

I have to admit that I didn't have a clue as to who this was at first. Then I found out about his climbing of Mt. Everest. Truly a remarkable feat. That would be something real interesting to try but I'd probably give out just a tenth of the way up as the air got thinner. Gotten too use to my plentiful supply of air and I want even go into the extreme drop in temperature. Truly a great pioneer of his time.

This is one of those occasions that I feel awkward about mourning a guy because I had assumed he was already dead. Still, I'll honor the pioneer.

By the way, I already knew he outlived Norgay when i read it in a book last month.

I just read the book Into Thin Air a month or two ago, so I actually knew who he was for a change. He accomplished much and truly made a name for himself. He will be missed.

I knew about him, I'll miss him in that abstract sort of way famous people who you have a neutral opinion of will be missed.

Well, neither of them have ever said which one of them got to the top first. Also, there were two climbers called Mallory and Irving who also might have made it in the 30s, but were killed on the way back down (a search for their missing camera has been on since the 70s).
Also, other people, most notable the Sherpas, probably climbed it before...just that the eyes of the world didn't know or care about them
