Ok, so this is all assuming that the insurgents have a deeper understanding of US politics than most US citizens? And me for that matter, because I don't have a clue what "midterms" means.

Well, to start, the midterms are a week from today; basically, those few American citizens that care will be voting in a brand new House of Representatives and 1/3 of their Senate.

As to the death toll increase, it spiked in October last year too, but clearly not in '04... (in fact, October '04 was a bit lower than its neighbouring months)

Really? Cuz my friend Benham, in Iraq with the Royal Signal Corps, says that most of the insurgents he's seen captured talk absolute crap.
