So these are the next list of nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of fame:

* producers Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards' funk group Chic ("Good Times");
* British Invasion band the Dave Clark Five ("Glad All Over");
* "White Lines" hip-hop pioneer Grandmaster Flash and his outfit, the Furious Five;
* college/indie-rock icons R.E.M.;
* 1960s girl-group/Phil Spector project The Ronettes ("Be My babby");
* punk poet Patti Smith (Horses);
* Iggy Pop's breakthrough act, the Stooges ("I Wanna Be Your Dog");
* the late soul singer/rap innovator Joe Tex ("Hold What You've Got"); and
* arena-rock gods Van Halen.

It's nice to see R.E.M. get the nod. Although I must admit, while I like some of their songs, I've never seen Van Halen as being great as they're made out to be. Of course, their impact IS undeniable.

Rock and Roll hall of fame? They'll put anyone in that now will they? Did Grandmaster Flash even make rock music? Next year they'll nominate Bing Crosby maybe.

If The Stooges don't get in it'd be a crime.

I would agree with Van Halen and definitely R.E.M.

I'd like to see the Stooges and R.E.M. make it. Van Halen probably will as well (I don't like them very much, but that's just my opinion).

Yes I'm glad to see The Stooges get in, Patti Smith was bound for it, and R.E.M deserves it. Never listened to Van Halen so I can't really say anything. Phil Spector? Didn't he also produce the Rocket to Russia album for the Ramones? Or maybe it was just that one song "Rock n' Roll Radio" he produced (I can't remember if that was even that album though...).

Yet again, a noticeable lack of Weird Al. :sad:

And I didn't know Mötley Crüe debuted in 1981.
