Today, the U.S. Navy retires the Tomcat fighter jet and probably one of the coolest ever at 130 m.p.h.

I'm not sure that counts as irony. It can't be "irony coming full circle," because that implies more than one instance of irony.

Oddly enough, I was considering whether to introduce a new game of sorts in which we describe real-life ironies, be they famous or anecdotal. My main reason for not doing so already is that there are plenty of games in session, but there are two other hangups: (1) it could easily take a turn for the offensive, and (2) even well-educated people often get clumsy in the designation of irony.

Anyway, I was unaware that the Tomcat had still been in business until now. I also had almost forgotten that Tomkat was still around. :-P

30-odd years of service is a pretty good run for a combat aircraft.
