Hmm. I guess I see Brazil as the Yankees of football, which is probably why I'm rooting against them.

Argentina beat Mexico 2-1 in extra time on an amazing goal. The goal-scorer played the ball off his chest, then kicked it into the upper corner of the net before the ball even had a chance to hit the ground. It was quite impressive.

Germany and Argentina will face one another in the quarterfinals.

And then there were eight. Four will move on, the other four will go home blaming referees for their losses. It's quarterfinals time!

Germany vs. Argentina
Italy vs. Ukraine
England vs. Portugal
Brazil vs. France

One of the matches for the semi-finals will be Germany vs. Italy. Yay?

I'm still holding my breath for England though.

And then there were four. For the first time since 1990, Brazil will not be in the finals. For the first time since 1982, all four semifinalists are European teams. Four games left in Germany 2006, one of which is the third-place game which personally I don't care about.

Germany vs. Italy on Tuesday
Portugal vs. France on Wednesday

Third-place game next Saturday

THE BIG ONE next Sunday. :D
