The only sport I really follow is (American) Football.
w00t STEELERS!

I'd probably follow soccer more if it was on more channels here. If I did, I have no idea who I'd root for. :?

A good source for info is the official World Cup site. It's in English, but there are links on said page to other languages.

As for today's matches, Ecuador beat Costa Rica 3-0 which knocks out both Costa Rica and Poland. It additionally advances both Germany and Ecuador into the round of 16.

England beat Trinidad and Tobago 2-0, and that puts England into the round of 16.

Sweden and Paraguay have yet to kick off at the time of this post.

Damned straight! Sitting there, and actually lept out of my seat when Crouch headed that first one in.

I mean, when you think that only 2 years ago Peter Crouch was a average scoring midfielder for Southampton when they were relegated to Division 2. Now he's our top goal scorer of the tornament, and a national treasure.

And Lampard's goal was nice too :D

Yep, congrats to England! :D

Paraguay got well and truly thumped by Sweden, so they're history.

Thanks to their wins earlier today, Argentina and the Netherlands have moved on to the round of 16. Ivory Coast and Serbia-Montenegro are kaput.

That was one exciting match. I was expecting Ivory Coast to even the score at any moment during pretty much the entire second half, luckily they didn't so now the Netherlands is through to the 1/8th finals :-P

Strange things are afoot in Germany. Portugal won, putting themselves in the round of 16 and eliminating Iran, but that's to be expected. Ghana beating the Czech Republic was NOT expected. Italy and the U.S. tied, despite the ref dealing out more cards than a blackjack dealer (one Italian and two Americans got sent off, so it was 10 vs. 9 for most of the second half). All four teams are still alive. Who'da thunk it?

Either Ghana or Japan (I think it was Japan). From what I saw, their goaly was brake-dancing and blocking the ball, AT THE SAME TIME!

That's freaky. Plus whilst I was watching the game and eating Suger-Puffs, I noticed that I'd cut "Lucifer" into my forearm.

Wednesday at 21:00 local time: The Netherlands vs. Argentina. I hope the Dutch team can win this, but Argentina is usually pretty good at winning so I have little hope.

Argentina did win from Ivory Coast with 2-1, just like the Netherlands though. So maybe they have a chance, or maybe they get lucky

I have been rooting for England throughout all of this. So, um, whoo!
Who sleeps shall awake, greeting the shadows from the sun
Who sleeps shall awake, looking through the window of our lives
Waiting for the moment to arrive...
Show us the silence in the rise,
So that we may someday understand...

Everyone has now played two of their three matches in the group stage. 8 have moved on into the round of 16 (Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, England, Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain) and 7 have been eliminated (Costa Rica, Iran, Ivory Coast, Paraguay, Poland, Serbia and Montenegro, and Togo). The remaining 17 teams' fates are yet to be determined.

The excitement continues! :D

Now group play is over, and the round of 16 is set. It's now do or die. The eight matches are:

Germany vs. Sweden
Argentina vs. Mexico
Italy vs. Australia
Switzerland vs. Ukraine
England vs. Ecuador
Portugal vs. the Netherlands
Brazil vs. Ghana
Spain vs. France
