Exchanging letters

The game is played by changing words into other words one letter at a time.
The rules as follows:
You can either add a letter to a word
(cat -> chat)
take away a letter
(crate -> rate)
OR change a letter
(stain -> slain)
You cannot revert to the word that was used before the last post. (ie. grew -> crew -> grew)
The words allowed are basically those of English scrabble. That means no names of obscure European beverages or dead Chinese emperors.
If a word is formed that cannot be followed, the next poster can admit defeat and start the next round with a 4-letter word.
