What does an island have in common with the letter "T"?
I'll take a guess that they are both surrounded by water? (waTer)

We already had the answer to that one, it was 'therein'.

Here's an interesting mathematical one:

You have an empty box and an infinite number of balls, which are numbered. In 1/2 a minute, you add balls 1-10 and, simultaneously, remove ball 1 (leaving balls 2-10). The next move takes 1/4 of a minute, and you add balls 11-20, removing ball 2, so there are now 18 balls in the box. Next move, 1/8 of a minute, and you add balls 21-30, and remove ball 3, so there are now 27 balls. You continue this procedure, halving the amount of time it takes on each move.

After one minute (that is, an infinite number of moves), how many balls are in the box?

Lewis got the answer to mine. As for nick's well, I have a theory that may confuse alot of you (which seems to be my specialty.) If you can imagine the atomic theory of that greek scientist who brought us the theory that if you cut a piece of paper in half that it would reach microscopic proportions. This relates to the riddle in the case that you want add balls for every half of a half. You ask for us to tell you a approximate amount of balls in a minute. However this would be the case if we actually reached a minute. You are all fimiliur with the rule that says two halfs make a whole. So in order to make a whole you need to exact halfs. However this is not the case in the riddle in which we are given halfes of the last half; no constant numerical value. So the answer I give is that you will not be able to give an approximate value of balls due to the ever growing fraction. AS you said, I have an ifinate amount of balls.

hmm, I remember that one of the examples of this quantum theory or whatever, the answer ends up being that it takes twice as much on paper as it does in real life.

The answer lies in the question. your required word is "seven letter", as it contains eleven letters.

Guessing ether an infinite number, or however many can fit into the finite box... Or zero, due to adding an infinite amount , and yet also removing an infinite amount.

Good attempts, Johnathan and Hyperion. Johnathan, we're speaking hypothetically here; you have a box which will always fit all the balls you put into it, and you can perform an infinite number of moves. After an infinite number of moves, you will reach a minute (that is the sum to infinity of this series). Hyperion has got the correct answer but not quite the correct method, so I'm leaving this one open. The real answer is very clever and slightly counter-intuitive.
