It's a freakin Dr. Suess book! If you're looking deep enough into Dr. Suess that you find his works oversimplified, you're thinking wayyy too hard. Not everything in this world has a deep, profound meaning and calls for critical analyzation and scrutiny. I have a stuffed Pikachu on the bookshelf next to it, though. (It's cute!)

Anyways, I'm just saying Suess could have pointed out that the mistake made was abusing the Truffala trees, not just cutting them down. However, that's beside the point. I also said, I think it's a very good book, as it at least implies that, and when discussed can bring up some wonderful deep discussions in kids.

I think people underestimate the intellegence of kids. Just because they haven't learned how to apply they're intellegence yet, doesn't mean that they don't have it.

I remember the first time I read The Lorax, I was around 3 years old. My main thought, which has always been my thought on the book, is why didn't the people cutting down all the truffala trees just farm them instead? I wouldn't expect every 3 year old to be able to grasp this, but any child intellegent enough to be able to read that book on their own should be able to understand this.

The absense of this one idea is what I find to be the oversimplification. I guess it could be considered implied, but I just don't think it's implied enough, as not enough adults see it. (More children see this concept than the adults. I guess too many adults have lost their inner child.)

My parents still have my old copy of The Lorax. I'm not sure if me or my brother will get it, my brother probably will, as he will likely have kids first. Kids are the last thing on my mind right now.

Anyways, back on subject

The next poster won't make a long tangent post like mine.
