I'm going to have to visit Define Cynical a bit lot less in the near future as a result of my computer imploding/the impending failure of my hard drive.
I hope to resolve this problem with aplomb and with all my important data saved. Then again, the plum isn't as important as the other.

This shows how skewed your priorities are unfortunately. Then again, the plum isn't as important as the other.
Nevertheless, I hope you get everything sorted out.

Re: The system is down
Well, I managed to get on my computer and back up some important files up to and including my entire folder of scanned sketches, comics, dirty limericks, and Jesus porn "Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side." John 20.
I need to take it to the computer shop on Monday and have them run a diagnostic. I might need to replace my hard drive. On the other hand, I may only need to replace the whole computer.

Re: The system is down
Why not run the diagnostic at home yourself via scandisk or chkdisk?

Re: The system is down
definitely try to do it yourself, even if you've never done it before. Be sure to print out a lot of instructions, and it will save you $40 for something that the computer tech could do in his sleep.
Apologies to everyone. Except Fritz.
First of all, Fritz, do yourself a favor and research your own answers before you post.

Re: The system is down
Cause its a free diagnostic. For free. Also, I'm afraid to turn it on because last time it was on it said something about the hard drive being damaged and recommending backing up any essential information. I'm actually using my brother's computer right now, have been since Thursday.

Re: The system is down
Its unclear. If something hardware-ish is the problem, I don't really have the money to get it fixed.

Your words are like a pointy dagger stabbed into the metaphorical kidney of my self-esteem, Rooster.
Anyway, it turns out that the motherboard kersploded. Replacing it would cost nearly as much as a new computer so I might be a bit longer. Not exceeding seven feet though.
