Yes, welcome. Welkom, willkommen, υποδοχή, bienvenue, добро пожаловать, Qa'pla, shorah, and such.<br><br>And get used to the fire references. There seem to be several pyromaniacs inhabiting these boards.<br><br>Familiarize yourself with these phrases as well:<br><b>rutabega</b> - Generally used in the phrase "rutabegas are cool". Used to make a random, nonsensical statement. Reference to the <a href='http://www.ozyandmillie.net/2001/om20010905.html' target='_blank'>Sept. 5 2001 O&M strip.</a> Also, a rutabega is a variety of turnip, derived from the Swedish word "rotabagge".<br><b>Pie</b> - Most likely a reference to <a href='http://www.weebl.jolt.co.uk/' target='_blank'>Weebl & Bob.</a> True origin unknown, many others are speculated. Generally used as part of a statement denoting randomness or veering off topic (which happens quite often, in fact). But it can really be used for anything.<br><b>Shiney</b> - An object, presumably small and metallic. Note the deliberate misspelling of "shiny". Generally "thrown" into a topic in a concious effort to veer it off track. There seem to be only a few members who engage in the throwing.<br><b>'Splode</b> - Contraction of "Explode". Perhaps taken from <a href='http://www.homestarrunner.com/sbemail94.html' target='_blank'>this</a> episode of Strong Bad email, as a reference to the phrase "your head a splode".<br><b>"This side of insanity"</b> - Seems to be a standard greeting for new members. This forum is often seen (by its own members, mainly) as being insane, clinically mad, crazy, or "not operating on all thrusters". The fact that I just wrote all of this in under five minutes, <i>from memory</i>, is proof enough of that.<br><b>Flooba</b> - I can only guess at what this means. It seems to be the embodiment of randomness. As if you took a rutabega, made it into a pie, doused it with insanity-grade gasoline, set it aflame, 'sploded it, then shoved that into a shiney, then lit <i>that</i> aflame, sprinkled it with a pinch of randomness, and made this into a pie, all while whistling "Yankee Doodle" backwards. While standing on your head. But then again, that's just a guess. It does seem to be the highest form of random.<br><br>Then again, I only joined a few weeks back, so those explanations are open to revision.<br><br>EDIT: Added "Flooba" happy now?

Normally, this would upset me. But I'm feeling rather apathetic today.

Greetings.
I wonder if it'll finally get it's own forum too. I've always wanted a place online where I can talk about O&M.

I first saw "Oooh... Shiney!" from Penguinita, but it has been accepted as a parallel and independent discovery among our members, seeing as so many have admitted using it before appearing here. 'Splode also came from Penguinita as her avatar was of some NASA-like imagery of a planet going unstable. Of course, the meaning of 'splode had changed when another member (Maeglin) mastered the art of inducing it with furry avatars. (Just search for posts where FoxChild 'splodes. heh) Oh, and I think the pie reference was mostly brought up by Miles originally and quickly adopted by the others, so wherever he got it was the source. You'll occasionally run into some random O&M quotes too, so be sure to read up on the archives before you wonder about that random thing they're saying.

Hm. Fascinating. Guess I should lurk a bit more before answering these things.
