The "<a href='http://definecynical.mancubus.net/forum ... 302&st=105' target='_blank'>Draw yourself as an O&M character</a>" has sparked the question of how many fingers an anthro ought to have.. Let's see what the people say!

personally i draw all people like they have mittens, a huge thing for their fingers and then a thumb. but animals i draw claws so it's different. never tried an anthropomorph.

DCS should've ended the comic a year or two ago.

It's the artist's decision, but I like 3 fingers more for cartoons.

I don't know why, but i always prefer going with the 5 digit hand.<br><br>*edit* and upon reading the last few options, i would have mny vote be whatever the artist wants. meh, too late to change it up there, but just -1 from 4, and +1 to artist choice

I've always gone for three and a thumb, but it's up to the artist in the end. Depends on how much realism they're shooting for and what kind of style they have.

I voted "whatever the person drawing it wants" but I personally prefer seeing four and a thumb.

<span style='color:blue'>I remember one particular alien design that I had drawn for me in which the creature was centauroid with a bit of lizard thrown in. the odd part was a pair of arms and hands. The hands had 4 fingers and two thumbs . Take your right and left hand and overlay them on top of each other facing the same way for the effect. Net result, a hand with a pair of opposable thumbs on each side of the palm.</span>

Opposite Apossible Thumbs..... huh, i can't see all too much of an advantage to that, although it would make for some interesting videogame controller designs!

<span style='color:blue'>Picture gripping a hammer and you can see the advantage. You would have a thumb at the upper and lower to increase stability. It would also make a interesting Keyboard design as well.</span>

Doesn't matter to me, let the artist decide for me.
Who sleeps shall awake, greeting the shadows from the sun
Who sleeps shall awake, looking through the window of our lives
Waiting for the moment to arrive...
Show us the silence in the rise,
So that we may someday understand...

Realistic cartoons are meant to have the standard number of fingers like any human. Anthropomorphic animals have had three fingers since the beginning of time (Mickey Mouse; Bugs Bunny) and are symbolic for cartoony animated cartoons, which are destined to have three. Any anthro cartoon is innevitably associated with the cartoon animal symbol, and would look highly out of place (at least to me) with four. (imagine Bugs Bunny with four fingers <!--emo&:o--><img src='http://definecynical.mancubus.net/forum ... s/ohmy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='ohmy.gif' /><!--endemo--> <img src='http://definecynical.mancubus.net/forum ... /icon8.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image' />)
