Fingers?
Moderator:Æron
I don't know why, but i always prefer going with the 5 digit hand.

*edit* and upon reading the last few options, i would have mny vote be whatever the artist wants. meh, too late to change it up there, but just -1 from 4, and +1 to artist choice
If you've done things right, people won't be sure if you've done anything at all.

I remember one particular alien design that I had drawn for me in which the creature was centauroid with a bit of lizard thrown in. the odd part was a pair of arms and hands. The hands had 4 fingers and two thumbs . Take your right and left hand and overlay them on top of each other facing the same way for the effect. Net result, a hand with a pair of opposable thumbs on each side of the palm.
We're sorry but the number that you have dialed is imaginary....Please turn your phone 90 degrees and try again.
Picture gripping a hammer and you can see the advantage. You would have a thumb at the upper and lower to increase stability. It would also make a interesting Keyboard design as well.

Realistic cartoons are meant to have the standard number of fingers like any human. Anthropomorphic animals have had three fingers since the beginning of time (Mickey Mouse; Bugs Bunny) and are symbolic for cartoony animated cartoons, which are destined to have three. Any anthro cartoon is innevitably associated with the cartoon animal symbol, and would look highly out of place (at least to me) with four. (imagine Bugs Bunny with four fingers )
