DC steam group

Postby Baconsticks » Sun Jan 27, 2008 7:11 pm

Well, after about a week, I finally got around to this.

http://steamcommunity.com/groups/definecynical

Ive created a DC gaming group, after a conversation on the IRC. I've decided to use steam for this, rather than a huge thread in here.

You don't have to own a Valve game in order to use Steam, you can download it here: http://www.steampowered.com/v/index.php

Built into Steam is an instant messenger, profile and other stuff.

The Steam group page also has a chat room and I know a few of you were interested in one, so if you are, grab Steam, and join the group.

Come Saturday morning if no one is interested I'm just going to just shut it down. I feel like an idiot being in a group by myself.

So What are you waiting for? JOIN NOW.

(Btw, the marty image is just a placeholder for now.)

being one of the frontrunners for this, I will join, but not just yet. lemme get settled into the second semester of my senior year first.

don't worry. it should take a week or two at the most.

I am bemused and befuddled by this technological mumbo-jumbo. However, if this is some kind of offshoot gaming thing as I suspect it is, I'll have to politely pass on it, for I already have a console-machine upon which I can play digital entertainment experiences.

Steam is a launching platform for various services developed by and/or with the company Valve, Inc. It runs in the background as a connection to their monster online server.

Yes, alot of the programs that run under the Steam service are games, most notably the Half-Life and Counterstrike series. But it does also have an IRC-esque chat service and other social software.

Personally, I've only ever used Steam as a gaming platform and ignored the "community" side, but that's just me. You can use one without touching on the other, and vice versa.

I've got Steam installed to play CS, but I rarely ever use it. Sorry, I've got enough chat programs open at once as it is.

I have a Steam-free copy of Portal, which makes it awesome. I have Steam installed, but I haven't used it in forever, and I probably won't. My BF bought me a copy of HL2, which came with Steam, and we stopped playing it after a couple weeks because Battlefield 2142 was better :-P.

Xfire ftw? None of the games I play require Steam, thus I do not have it installed, though I am more than willing to join an Xfire group should anyone decide to make one.

I haven't played a steam game in a while (never mind played a game at all)

I'd join. I dunno. if someone starts and Xfire group I'd join that I guess.
