Uh, I think you missed the joke. "Define Cynical" refers to the strip where Millie is holding a globe, and wearing a shirt saying "I'M WITH STUPID". (See the logo at the top)

You're not using Firefox 3 yet? BLASPHEMY.

Plus it looks like you're using Windows XP Ugly Edition. Image At least use a uxtheme patcher and then this.

Fail on MANY COUNTS.

[Edit: Oh God, and you're CANADIAN TOO (lol j/k)]

At least you use OpenOffice and an nVidia card.

And what's wrong with that? :-P I for one am pretty leery of having all sorts of strange buggy software on my computer just so it can look nicer.

You make me not want to do everything you just told him to do.

Themes are not "buggy software". The only software is the uxtheme patcher, and they've gotten quite sophisticated. XP HAS been out for 6+ years now, you know. All it does is make your uxtheme.dll able to load non-Microsoft themes.

Considering the only themes Microsoft has put out are SHINY BLUE LUNA REHASH (they didn't even put out this one for XP but for a derivative OS, uses the same format though) and BLACK LUN--I MEAN ZUNE THEME this would be a GOOD THING TO DO.

Hmm. Well, I'd be willing to try it out if there were some better-looking themes than that Watercolor one. Where can I find more compatible ones like that? (Or are the WindowBlinds skins compatible too?)

Oh yeah? WELL, I CAN DO WORSE.

And by the way, linking to a page showcasing something that people say crashed on them or messed their interface isn't the best way to give advice about what someone uses.

Meh... I dunno about comments... I've never had problems, and there's not really a whole lot that COULD go wrong. Worst comes to worst, you could always hit WIN+R, and type "sc stop themes" to kill XP theming...

I personally like Watercolor... very simple, sticks to the Windows Classic roots while looking much nicer. Microsoft almost shipped XP with a similar theme, before they replaced it with the FLASHY AND UGLY Luna. Image

Windowblinds themes won't work, since Windowblinds is a completely different separate theme renderer from XP's built in theming engine. Windowblinds themes are more flexible and varied but they render slower than XP themes, which is most noticeable if you launch a game.

There are other apps out there such as StyleXP, which patches uxtheme.dll in memory, then sit around in your systry, hog memory, and provide an theme selection interface that Windows already has built-in, and then they give you trial periods and ask you for money. I think I'll just patch my uxtheme.dll once on disk for free instead, thanks. These apps use normal XP themes so if you see "StyleXP themes" they're just normal Windows XP themes.

Also patches don't interfere with Windows Updates. Worst happens is Windows pushes out an update and the effects of your patch reverts. Then all you gotta do is repatch the new file (most uxtheme patchers now can autodetect which version of uxtheme.dll and apply the appropriate patch).

Here's me using a theme based off of Vista's Aero theme:

Ignore the menu popup bit... it's a bug in the screenshot program I made.

A custom shellstyle (part of the visual style) provides the neato blue toolbar in the explorer window. The Vista-ish top bar is provided by another app I use called Styler Toolbar.

The are themes on DeviantArt... usually they're called "XP Visual Styles" and a Google search turns up other sites with them... be careful which sites you download from, at least one site packages themes up with mandatory toolbar installers. Bleh.

Now for something completely different: http://x.mzzt.net/0053.jpg

I don't use Live Search normally... but everyone is already posting Google Image

To all of you talking about themes:

Aero interface is NICE.

Vista FTW!

Well, even if I wanted to, running Vista on my machine would be suicide. There'd be no computer left over for running actual programs...

Believe me, I know.

I'm running 4GB of RAM and a Q6600 as my CPU, so speed and multi-tasking are of no concern. Still, just idling with background programs on, Vista (I'm running 64-bit) eats up almost half a GB. IDLE.

Yeah, see I've got only 1GB of RAM and a Pentium 4. I just really don't see what more Vista can get me, anyway. :|

P.S. I love my new xp theme.8) I made a shiny new desktop graphic to go along with it...(see my deviantART.)
