Well, except in Newfoundland; blame the fact that an entire regiment from that former British colony died on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
And we don't have any reason to set off fireworks on the 4th... That's a US holiday.

Well, I haven't got any fireworks,
But seriously, who needs fireworks when you've got a .303, propane tanks and some Jerrycans full of gas and diesel?

Now, for the benefit of a little Aussie who has never taken foot of home soil, but who desperately wants to see Canada and to learn more about the country, would you mind filling me in on the details of Canada day?

Well, there's fireworks if your town is rich enough (or stupid enough not to realize that it isn't) or if you fire them yourself. Some places hold fairs and stuff, with whatever they feel like putting there. Some people just party and get right hammered. Some places hold special events and whatever, like the paintball field did today. Yeah, basically it's just a long weekend where everyone does whatever. At least around here. THe bigger cities may hold big celebrations and all that, but I don't live there,so I couldn't tell you.
Festivities around here mostly come in groups of 24. Or in mickeys.

Well, considering how similar both of our countries are, and how similar the reasons for our celebrations are (i.e. both celebrate the day we became our own country).

Hooray! I will have to give you all of my enthusiastic points because I am not a Canadian citizen, so I can't celebrate it.
