Seeing as there's some music stuff going on right now, I thought I should post some of my songs...now, I don't have a studio, just a microphone and a copy of Adobe Audition. That and I know nothing about music theory...I just go "ooh, that chord sounds good"

My favorite of those is the second. Maybe I'm just biased toward the key of F.

One apparent advantage to your lack of music theory training is that your tunes are often unpredictable. On the minus side, some of your chords sound jarring to me. But all in all, I'd listen to your songs more readily than to a station that plays only hits from the 2000s.

I was kind of hoping for some advice and more than just two people showing intrest. I want to know where I can do better, eg, are the lyrics ok? What should I work on? Do you reckon it's worth polishing some songs up? Which are the best ones?

They're great Roo. If I were to criticise, I'd say that you run the risk of losing the vocals under the guitar. I very much like the second one too.

And I think the lyrics are great, by the way.

I think the lyrics themselves are good, and the music is good too, though a little on the repetitive side in some cases. Your vocals are kind of off and on. Sometimes they're perfect, other times you sound like a howling wolfdog.

I'd say the most important thing would be to do some voice training type stuff, though I don't know exactly what that'd be. If your vocals were more consistent, they'd be great.

RESSURECTION!!!

Ok, instead of me putting another post up, here are my new songs, and one that's a redone version of the older ones. Now, I've taken what the people who commented on my older stuff into account and tried to improve my singing. I even got a friend to teach me how to sing from the stomach and not the throat, which I sort of got ok for "One Day". Also, I've tried to clean them up a bit to make them a little more than just one-take recordings.


Funky Name - A "beats+peices" song I made in about 20 minutes.

One Day - A song about hopes, dreams, and denial.

Another Day Under The Sun - A silly little instrumental.

Death Of A Northern City - A sad song about Leeds.

Sunflower - The redone version of the old song. Same song, just performed better.

Tie Me Down - Not the first song I've written about not getting laid, but the only one that's any good.

He Was Just A Rookie Trooper - My take on a classic Paratrooper marching song.


I've got some more in the pipelines, so just let me know what y'all think about these new ones...what's good, what's bad, what I can do. This isn't my art, this is my hobby and I want to improve, so any critacism is welcome so long as it's not "Your voice sucks" as I already know that

Anyway, i would REALLY appreciate it if SOMEONE would listen to the new ones and actually tell me what they think. Sure this is a fun place, but I worked really hard on these and not to get to serious, I deserve more than just humourous responces...

I've just had a listen to your latest bunch, now I don't know what my opinions worth as I mainly listen to electronic stuff, however! You've certainly got talent.

I particularly liked Another day, sounds like some really decent playing there - reminded me of the Ballad Of The Beaconsfield Miners by Foo Fighters.

Sunflower was good - nice pace, and the opening of Tie Me Down sounded like you were going to break out into some psychedelic rock, what with the echo and quirky lyrics, it made me smile.

Death Of A Northern City was interesting, I've been to Leeds once when York got a tad too stale on nightlife, albeit I was very drunk and thus remembered little about the place!

All in all, good stuff. Got a nice range of moods in that little collection.
