Like I said in my LJ...
...we have arbitrarily designated this day out of our avalible 365 to be the day the earth completes one revolution around the sun and thus elicits a celebration of cyclical completion, happy new year.

Is that the tropical year (equinox to equinox; 365.24 days) or the sidereal year (fixed star to fixed star; 365.26 days)? Of course, if we are defining our terms, a mean tropical day is 24 hours, 3 minutes, 56.555 seconds in mean solar time, whereas a mean sidereal day is 23 hours, 56 minutes, 4.091 seconds in mean solar time...
Just a walking contradiction, partly truth and partly fiction, taking every wrong direction on his lonely way back home.

(And there are a lot of wrong directions on that lonely way back home.)
