Well, my belief was always that existence was nothing more than perception. While the exact question of whether or not we exist is rather silly if you think of it (If we do exist, then why do we ask the question? If we don't, then still, why? We learn nothing of it either way, and it changes nothing either way.), but the exact question of what fills in the innards of existence is what I was always interested in.

I always saw the world and life and being a part of it as how things are percieved. For instance, one group of people may see cats as being demonic, while another would see them as being heavenly. Would this make cats either good or evil? No, they would simply be cats. This being said, one could infer that since perceptions of everything are radically different between practically everyone and every thing, that nothing can truly be what it is we believe it to be beyond what it honestly is. A cat is a cat. A man is a man. A fish is a fish. Existence is existence. Whether they are something more is not the point. They are simply what they are. Simply because we've made words to describe them does not mean they are anything more than what they were in the first place.

So, what I say is that existence is simply existence, which is what it is. Whether or not it is non-existence or not is a null point. Thus, I tend not to worry and just go off to eat a little Snowball snack cake or something of the sort.

Man those are good.

There have been many differant approaches to the same problem. Now, lets hear your take on it. Do you view the world through the arguments of plato? or perhaps you take more to Descartes. There are external references that could be used all over the place in this thread, including things like movies and TV shows. I'll post my response to this later. I've had thoughts on this recently.
Imagine you are in the 700th millenium and you've gotten this new game which costed you seven weeks of pockets money.
Right, you're plugging the chip in the simulator and put the body strap on. You've never played this game before so you set it on easy-medium.
Suddenly your memory, mental and sensing abilities are wiped and you're in sudden shock because things are happening so fast and you're in a new envornment and you can't comprehent anything because all around you are things completely new and you're feeling strange new feelings.

You've just been born.

what kind of chicken? And how do you know it tastes like chicken? I believe that to be a generalization.

(tavis, if you post next, I will be stunned if you don't make the proper pun out of this.)

Prepare to be stunned, because I don't know what kind of foul play you had in mind. Oh wait.. I do. Nevermind. It was a cheep shot, and I winged it.

ANYWAY..... the internet itself is a kind of alternate reality, one that exists in our imaginations and is linked mostly through text and images (and sometimes in other forms). Certainly identities can be adopted that are totally alien to our offline natures, but sometimes it's simply a facet that had not been explored elsewhere.

Anyway, as far as I can tell, online chicken tastes like electrical current.

BSP has piqued my curiousity. Do you still remember what everyday objects are? Can you still walk? Are your memories retrievable? Do you like the number 7, or what?

I've actually had some thoughts along these lines, but I'd like to see your responces first.
Still mostly here.

If everything around you was a simulation, and you knew that, would you care?
