.... I could use it as an excuse to write up one of the stories of my comic... and I know which one would make 5000 words... but I dpnb't have time.

I've written a few long stories that are about 75,000 words, but they were all over the space of about a year.
Nuts dude. I can barely think of 8 words in a month.

The longest story I've written was about 4,900 words. Ironically, it was for a lax assignment with no minimum length.

...Longest story I've written was about 3k words. Most are around 800-1000. I'm a short fiction writer, not a novellist, and I haven't written for ages.
...And wouldn't 50k words class as a Novella rather than a Novel?
