They say that "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." If that is the case, then is it possible that inward nature can be revealed through outer appearance?

I've interpreted "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" as simply a poetic means of saying that beauty is subjecive, and open to interpretation by all. If this phrase were true, then beauty is subjective and must have a beholder to exist. Because inner beauty is unseen, it cannot exist. The phrase says nothing of whether an inward nature can be revealed by outward appearances, but rather that a person sees beauty only if he or she considers what is observed as beautiful. If a person truly can see a person's inner nature, it is indifferent to the statement "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."

I would say that a person's outward appearance generally is not indicative of what their inner self is like. Sometimes you can get clues about a person from their appearance, like if you watch people in a crowded bar or mall or something, you can tell who is an introvert, who's a funny person, stuff like that. But that has more to do with facial expressions and body language than actual looks, so I'd still have to say that you can't tell much from a person's looks.

I think it's more the case that inward APPERANCE is shown through OUTWARD nature. How you act is what's important not what you look like. I have three ways of measure looks. Cutness, hotness, and beauty. The first two are strickly apperance based and don't mattr for much in my mind (although they are nice). Beauty for my is entarly subject to one personality. If my opinon of someones personality changes then their beauty changes. As for beaty being in the eye of the beholder: everyone has their own standards of beauty and the ones you aply to yourself is going to be diferent from those that others aply to you and even those you aply to other people. I think you're beautifull though, msj (and cute).

I think 'the eye of th beholder' refers to the third eye, for those who study in that school of philosophy (I don't really, but I know some of it). It's not talking about the eyes that see physical existance, but the eyes that see the inner self. Know thyself before you know others, and don't judge.

Inner beauty can be shown on the outside.
Like, if you're really scruffy and stuff then it looks like you don't care about hygene etc.

I'd say that you can't tell a lot about a person from their looks. I for one resemble nothing so much as a scarecrow that has been outside for a number of seasons. It says a lot about my tendencies in terms of dress and such, but as far as personality...you can't really infer that from a person's looks. I tend to appear extremely unapproachable, but I can be nice, if I feel like it.
