I don't play gulid wars, but my cousin does, I prefer City of Heroes/City of Villians myself (Star wars galaxies sneaks in occasionally though...)

You can download the client for free and it's free to play, but apparently you need a CD Key.

This one's special though. There are very few especially good items, so more people get items based on aesthetics, there is a low level cap so it doesn't become like work, and it has a friendlier atmosphere than other MMO's I've played. Also, the graphics are amazing.
