Flags

Ok, this is gonna be pretty random, but I just want to know.

I know it's illigal to burn the US flag, and I have no intention of doing so. See, despite it becomming the new symbol of imperialsim (the old one being our flag) I think it looks cool.

But, is it illigal to burn the Conferderate flag?

Actually, it's perfectly legal to burn the US flag, provided it's yours and not someone else's (in which case, that's vandalism).

I don't know if it's Illegal to burn it or not. However, I do know that it's not a good idea to burn it in the south. They view it as a symbol of southern pride, and the North views it as a symbol of slavery. Why do you want to know?

In America, I think, you have to get a permit for burning anything much bigger than a leaf. But that might just be book burnings.

Very random indeed. :wag:

well heres the scout in me coming out but,

*ehem* Depending on how the american flag is waved is what the situation is,

if it is normal at the top of the pole: everythings fine

if its hung halfway up: there was a death recently

if it is hung upside down: there is trouble brewing

if it touches the ground EVER you must burn it

Burn rights depend vary from county to county and the conditions in the area.

Book burnings don't happen that often, though numerous idiots want them to.

actually, they passed a law in america illegalizing flag burning in america RKN. (except if it's because it's an unfit flag, of course) I know because on the day before it, Sead Howard (great webcomic author and a strong political person) burnt a flag. His standpoint was that burning a flag is good, because the flag is not America. It is a symbol of America. Seeing pictures of your friends are good, but it's best if you interact with your real friends instead of just their pictures. Burning the flag is saying that you love America for being America, and for having the right to burn the flag, because the flag is not America.

When was this, and has there been any conviction (i.e. has it stood up to various constitutional challenges?) for it? Because flag burning is a protected form of free speech.

okay, I googled for it and it doesn't seem like the law was passed, but I remember him talking about it on his blog (why would he have posted pictures of him burning a flag the day before the law was set if the law wasn't going to become a law?) and I remember the day it became illegal. perhaps it was just getting passed in his state? it is illegal in some states, at least.

As for a confederate flag, it doesn't seem illegal since it's not the american flag. kind of like insulting roman-paganism in the vatican city.

As for the burning of a US flag - it's the recomended way of flag disposal (there is no 'must' burn, the flag code, to my knowledge, isn't law. And if it was law how many people would be arrested for wearing an image of the flag, which is against it)

I think I remember hearing about the illegalization of flag burning. I believe it should be 100% legal, but I suppose free speech will always be limited in any form of government.
