Did you know that there will be an "Over the Hedge" animated movie next summer? It's made by Dreamworks SKG, so the *big money* is involved. There is already a trailer on the official website but it was a bit disappointing. I've never read the strip until yesterday and after having read some of the strips now, I don't think the strip is that hilarious to legitimate an extremely expensive animated movie based on it. But it features a raccoon as the main character, so I am likely to watch it anyway. Unless it'll suck as hell, of course.

[EDIT: What stood here was wrong, so I deleted it.]

I heard about the plans maybe a year ago, when RJ was going to be voiced by Jim Carrey instead of Bruce Willis. Until I saw the trailer, I was afraid it wouldn't come to fruition.

"Over the Hedge" is not a webcomic. It got into newspapers about a decade ago. At the time, I thought it was fairly lame, but it has gotten big on character. Maybe not consistently clever, but one of the few comics I wish my paper hadn't dropped.

The movie looks set to do the comic justice. And if it's not very funny, well, at least I can guarantee the woodland critters are cute.

Where I got the information for the first time it said that "Over the Hedge" was a webcomic and I've not questioned that information.

Nonetheless I think that most of strips from the last weeks that are available on http://www.overthethedge.com/ are either good or just average. I would only classify two of the Sunday strips as really good.

I've heard of the movie, and not the comic. And I'll probably see it, but not on the first day, as I never do that, except for "The Incredibles", but that's only cuz it was the only good movie out at the time...but I digress. I thought the trailer wasn't lol funny, but hopefully the TV ones will be, and even if not, I'm still seeing it, cuz I think it's going to be a good movie, I can feel it.

Over the Hedge and Mutts are the only syndicated comics I read and I've been reading both for a few years. I doubt the movie will open over here but at least they're making one, and hopefully Dreamworks will put it's usual fun and expertise into it.

I remember a few months back the characters in the strip discussing the movie being made about themselves, that was the first time I heard of it, then I watched the trailer.

Also, it should be noted here that Over the Hedge has only animal characters in it, but they aren't anthromorphic, so I don't know if that counts as furry.

What do you mean, only animal characters? The main theme in OTH is the symbiosis of woodland critters with humans. They can even converse with the humans who are very young, very old, or very crazy.

As for anthropomorphism, that has its degrees. These animals talk, have humanoid facial expressions, walk on two legs, are literate, and appear to have opposable thumbs.
