Hmm... I was wondering if anyone else was interested in that. I just checked out the "Inside Doom" trailer.

I've heard mostly not great reviews of the [DooM] movie, especially from die-hard fans that populate the likes of Doomworld and whatnot. Will I watch it? If I have the money to. [Translated as when it comes out on DVD probably =/]

I very much doubt anyone at Doomworld's seen anything other than trailers. Which is funny, because they showed some really nice content. I liked the look of the facility, plus the monsters stayed pretty much true to both the new and old Doom games. (Anyone else see the old-type imp?)
Dwayne Johnson is a pretty good actor, so I wouldn't be surprised if the movie was incredible. 'Course, it could be entirely like Doom 3 and have a shallow storyline and poor scenes.

Doom was the first computer game I ever played, and even I think Doom 3 is better than it.

I mean, what storyline was there in the original Dooms? Not an evident one if there was one at all.

Doom 3 was immersive and very atmospheric. Almost as good as Half Life 2 in my eyes.

Well... Maayybbbeeee...

Actually, the thing is, the original Doom games had more of a back story, whereas Doom 3 put it all on the table at one time. The HL games had one hell (No pun intended) of a back story, and that is what I like in a game. It's like trying to compare two different genres if you try to look at Doom 1, 2, ect. to Doom 3. When the originals were made, they used everythin they could to make it the best possible.

Now, looking at Doom 3, it's been many years since the originals, technology is incredibly advanced, we can make real worlds rather than emulate them. It had pretty good VO, I'll give 'em that, but the storyline goes as such:

You go in.
All hell breaks loose.
You kill everything on your own.

Pretty much the same as the originals. Also, what about Return to Castle Wolfenstien? That's a wonderful remake in my opinion. If ID Software had done something like that, Doom 3 would've rocked insanely. Unfortunately, they hardly expanded on it at all, other than simplifying it.
I liked those cute little imps in the originals, too...

Worry, I worded that last part badly. I meant to say that I liked it as much as HL2.

RTCW was amazing, but I still think for sheer terror, Doom 3 captured everything that made Doom great and explanded on it. The only thing I didn't like about it was that they left out the Aracnotrons.

@ Rooster: I see what you mean now. Yes, Doom 3 was definately spooky, but it sucked that they didn't have any "aliens" like the Aracnotrons or Spider Mastermind. They overused the "BOO!" jump-out-and-scare-you to much too make me jump after Mars City.

@Holyman: I assumed Halo'd be a movie, which is awesome. Half-Life the movie isn't coming out until after Valve finishes HL3. Oh, and Gordon Freeman does eventually talk...

There's a certain trend in games though. Specifically remakes. From what I've seen, remakes that stray WAY too far from the original are not that good. Doom 3, although the lack of a GREAT storyline exists, it doesn't stray from the original storyline. That is a part of what made it successful.

Would you want there to be a hot babe in Doom 3 that you, the main character, had to save, as well as killing everything in your way?
No. That would suck compared to the original storyline.

Doom was so successful because it was just about killing everything. Doom 3 throws in an intro to the game, and apart from the occasional living person, it did not stray far from the original storyline.

Don't despair, the same thing happened to me. I used to marvel at it so much at first, but then I took a good long look at the gameplay, fear element, and the graphics.

Really? I thought it was kinda spooky in places where it wasn't meant to be. Must just be me. Half-Life 2 scared me a bit, though. The bump mapping in Doom 3 was nice, but the models on the enimies were crap without the bump maps.

I did like Doom 3, I just think it could have been so much better. I know how good ID is, they could've pulled off something to murder even HL2, but unfortunately, that wasn't the case.
