Okay, now it turns out my Web host, FreeWebs.com, has a limitation on the number of individual files that can be on a given site. I personally think this is incredibly bogus, and I'm almost sure they never said any such thing when I signed up. But it's free; I figure they're not obligated to live up to their claims unless I'm paying them something.

So what I'm wondering is, does anyone out there know of a good free Web host that doesn't throw a jillion ads all over the place? It would also have to be one where I can use their domain instead of having to buy my own "dot-com" address.

Any help would be appreciated; I honestly have no idea what the heck to do here. Finding FreeWebs in the first place was just a bizarre stroke of luck on my part.

EDIT: Oh, and btw yes, I've been Googling already. So far, nothing worthwhile.

Well, if you're just looking for a solution for your comic, you could use the combination of ImageShack and Blogger. For an example of this, look at the Myst-related comic, The Path of the Panels.

Other than that, I really don't know of anything.

Bah! Not FreeWebs!
Their servers are like, 28k modems...

I recall Felix having a web hosting service, maybe he'd let you in on that?

Personally I use photobucket, but I understand some people don't like them.

There are no good free web hosts. Trust me, I've used 'em all

But, I'd be happy to host whatever site you want to put up, and I can give you a subdomain to point your domain to if you want. Email me privately (webmaster@lupinia.us) if you're interested.

only way i got free webspace was by becoming close friends with the webmaster.

http://www.twu.net

I have yet to have any problems with this webhost.

I bet JL would host Ozy and Millie at no charge if it were ever needed. JL loves O&M. and is also a furry. Very strange person, but a genuinely nice person.

If I understood correctly you're looking for a place to host your site for free, right?

Well, after suggesting Felix's offer, Host Department's could be an option. Their free option seems to look good.

I'll probably go with them. That is, once their website decides to work properly. Granted, it's not a good sign when a potential web host's site takes forever to connect and then times out twice, but since they also have paying customers, I'm going to assume this is just a temporary fluke.

The mention of hosting O&M was just a offhand comment.

I used Tripod, but then they slashed my storage, dropped my bandwidth, added popups to every page (instead of just having one when you first load the site), and put banners on the top and bottom. To top it off, it was a gaming site, and the targeted ads were often account sales, cheats, and other things I didn't want.

So then I tried Freewebs... same problems you found. It seems good at first, but with slow servers and a limit on files, it's not worth it.

Then I found 100webspace, which was the best I'd seen. 100 megs of space, lots of bandwidth, plenty of extra features. Unfortunately a ton of other people found it at the same time I did, and they've added banner ads, a limit of 250 KB per file, and the servers have slowed down.

It may not be a feasable solution for you, but I'm just going to run my own server and be done with it.

Well the thing Jacob suggested seems to be working. Tomorrow I'm going to see if I can log into it from FileZilla and get the stuff transferred.

Thanks Jacob!

Glad I could help, hope it works out because it was just a suggestion after all.

The problem you had previously must have been temporary I guess.
