As some of you may or may not know, I hope to one day have a comic strip online. And it came to mind about the sort of things I wanted to put up, versus the things some of the "internet public" may like.

I'm still sticking with the general idea, but I would like to know which online comic out there (besides O&M, obviously) you love to read the most and what you would like to see in an online comic, or what appeals to you the most.

And when I say, "what would you like to see in an online comic," I mean besides rutabegas. Don't worry, I know you all worship the ground we harvest rutabegas from, and I will insert them somewhere in the comic, if I ever get started. So please, tell me what you would like to see, BESIDES rutabegas.

Well, aside from O&M, I read / watch:

Secret Of Mana Theater
VGCats
Megatokyo.

As for what I like to see in a comic, I dunno, that's harder.

SoM Theater is mainly comedy, with some serious bits, and an underlying storyline. VGCats is all about teh funnay. And Megatokyo tries to combine a serious tone with a good storyline, with lighthearted deviations.

I guess picking a theme and staying to it If VGCats suddenly started trying to get serious at times, it'd be realllllly freaky.
Oh dear lord sig is fubar. o_o

I've wanted to start an online comic too.... for ages. I just like comics that don't take themselves seriously.

The trick is coming up with the actual gags which, being in college, I don't have the time or the patience for. But my other faves are -- aw, heck, I might as well link to them -- "Newshounds" and "Mynarski Forest." Now, I'll also mention that I really like "Frazz" even though it's a newspaper comics, because darnit, it's just as good as the online stuff! And FoxTrot has a wacky sense of humor that I'd like to see in more comics.

O&M is the only one I read at the moment.

As for what I want to see? Hmm, tough call... I'd take a look at something more mature involving foxes in some way, but has it's share of funny lines too.

Obviously a comic about video games or sci-fi is going to go down well because of the following they can have in this modern day and age, but i suppose you also have to be well versed on the subjects. Also you'll almost definitely lose this potential reader if your comic happens to be about that.

I read Newshounds, which has good characters and stories, with clever jokes. Ozy and Millie is obvious. Commander Kitty is good too, but it's a little more digitally enchanced than i'd like. Gene Catlow has storylines like epics and great character development throughout. Mullein Fields is a relatively little known comic but it has a subtle charm that i like. Jack is for mature audiences but has some intense and human stories.

I guess i like comics with good characters and stories, because as Bill Watterson said, "good writing will save bad art better than good art will save bad writing" or something like that. I also appreciate comic art done through more traditional means.

Just my two cents.

I like "Better Days" myself. I don't exactly know why though. It has a heavy mature theme, but it's deep and the art ain't half bad either.

And thank you Linus. I'll be sure that my characters are "developed". My comic is supposed to have a "random humor" that runs through it, but I've got a few other tricks up my sleeve that I'm just dying to use. Thanks for the tip.

Miyo! Chikara no chizu!

Living proof that Ninja and Pirates can live together in peace, harmony, and fun at the expense of ye hapless townsfolk.

"
< e
-|-|-/ <
< e
_________/
-------------------------
Hey... That's actually not a bad idea. The other forum I post at had a comic a while ago about that; all the characters were members of the forum. It was basically "Save the world, blahblahblah...eh, screw it, let's go burn stuff." It was pretty funny.

I COULD do one of those, for practice maybe. But I'd need like a composite description of your "internet identity"...plus it would take a lot of time. I couldn't do it by myself; I'd need talented help. But perhaps...

At the moment, I'm trying to figure out how I should handle "pets" and "zoos" if I did a traditional Anthro comic. An anthropomorphic dog owning a non-anthropomorphic dog just seems...weirdto me.

So I'm considering changing it to a furry/sci-fi/humor genre, and giving it a semi-serious storyline.

Or Arthur and Pal. Or Millie wanting a pony. ...Or this.

EDIT:

Quote: (Talitha @ Oct 29 2004, 03:57 PM)

So I'm considering changing it to a furry/sci-fi/humor genre, and giving it a semi-serious storyline.

How exactly does being sci-fi help the confusion of there being animals and anthros coexisting?
