Is the reverse aging a result of being in the land beyond the couch? Some sort of radiation, like in that Star Trek movie?

Is it genetic? Something else?

Discuss.

I think the reverse aging phenomenon has to do with being a species native to the land under the couch. Nothing more, nothing less.

I make this conclusion because of a couple points.
It is strongly assumed aging is not halted or reversed by travelling to the land like it would be to visit Peter Pan's Neverland. If it was, it would be a trivial matter for Ms. Mudd and Locke to be able to stay together and raise a family.

Could it be that they simply didn't know?
Now, this isn't a matter of not knowing what would happen, since Llewellyn would know perfectly well by now.

While we may not know how old Llewellyn is, he is quite old enough to have frequented the couch for a significant amount of time there. This is verified by the fact he had to notice that Locke ages backwards. There was no way he could have asked Locke, since aging backwards is something Locke did not understand and couldn't simply tell Llewellyn. In fact, Ms. Mudd herself had difficulty explaining it to Locke, because his first response to her explanation was an exclamation that Ms. Mudd ages backwards. Because of that, I am also concluding that Locke's age regression is not unique to him but is quite common among the residents of the land under the couch cushions. A couple other small details gathered from Millie's first visit may support this viewpoint as well.

I think the land beyond the couch works like this:

At the start of a cycle, there is a soul. This soul is born into a body in the world of O&M. When that body dies, it is transferred to the land beyond the couch, and given a new body that is the same age as on the "right" side of the couch. This body ages in reverse relative to the right side of the couch, but for the sake of sanity, the soul has no memory of its previous life. The body eventually returns to birth, where it is reborn on the right side of the couch.

So, the other side of the couch is a sort of afterlife, and the couch-based connection between them is a fluke that probably shouldn't exist, yet it does.

Hmm, perhaps I should sleep? <img src='

Interesting cycle idea.

I believe that Time (with the capital T) goes backwards there. So just as our world will be ending, theirs will be beginning. Hence the pirate ships, I guess. As for bubblegum and stuff still being there? Well, we still have stuff left over from waaay back in our wourld. Why shouldn't they?

Problem with my theory? We'd know when the world would end, so we'd know when Time would end, and that brings in a whole load of stuff on fate and destiny and such.

I would have to agree with Tavis's Theory.

It's one giant dragon conspiracy, and you know it.

They simply reversed time on the other side of the couch.

Isolde claims no responsibility for this. <img src='

I agree with Tavis. Next, speculate what this holds for our favorite half-breed.

Millie has aged about two years since 1998. YOu tell me what it means.

Favorite half-breed... Millie, right? I hadn't considered her a half-breed since her parents do appear to be the same species, but I have thought of her as a unique hybrid being of some sort. Being the daughter of a couple that ages in different directions is quite rare indeed.

I think that her mixed heritage has given her a mix of aged Locke and youthful Ms. Mudd characteristics in early life. I feel this notion partially explains her ability to appear to be like an adult and a kid at the same time.

The irony is that this also suggests she got her grown-up characteristics from her dad. Of course, because it's going backwards, this should fade with time. Sounds bad? Not really, because there's also her mom's half, and her maturity may help in Millie's later years. By extrapolating, you can see that as she grows up, both ends could meet at her late teens (I expect some constructive interference here and lots of disasters there) before she becomes a grown up who is a pirate kid at heart.

You know, if DCS actually worked on this principal, there'd be a lot in store over the next few years, with Millie's adult-ness form Locke changing to Ms Mudd's adult-ness. However, I just think he went "Now, what'd be odd and funny; completely off the wall?" and came up with backwards time.
But theorising is cool <img src='

You're wrong, you're all wrong. The land on the other side of the couch is how it really is, how time really should be and this side is the anomaly, where time is going backwards.
