It all works great. His little brother managed to get all the acorns that his school was throwing out...then he screwed (some of, last count) them up mucking about with them. Hes 10/11. He also put down his prefered name as Bill Gates so on all the school registers hes called Bill Gates. I think hes a computer nerd in the making. His older brother (my m8) is more into coding than hardware.

a computer nerd? but he wants to be BILL GATES. any such child gives me a bad image and thus must be eaten by tomatos!

besides, he DESTROYED his schools ACORN OS COMPUTERS!!!!!!!

he obviously has a pure un-partitioned mind. an nobody can be a true computer nerd and still be sane. you must must make this child do the funky chunky dance of rebelious conformity. it's being it's like how it's cool to not be cool!

I've gotten 3 PCs, 2 video cards, 3 hard drives (none over 3 GB), 2 floppy drives, 1 tape drive, and 3 CD-ROM drives for free. People donate the really old (but still working stuff) to my school thinking that we'd actually have a use for it.

This household has three Sharp Zaurus SL-5500s, valued at about 400 bucks when they first came out... the first one was bought early '03 from Best Buy for about 195 dollars. The second was mid-August '03 from Office Depot for $119 (and purchasing alongside a bunch of accessories like extra batteries, stylus packages, and another docking station at discounted prices since the model was being discontinued there.) The third one (the one I mainly use now thanks to the cracked screen on the second one ) was only $90.22 at Micro Center, purchased about a month ago. The discount was for missing the battery and everything but the base unit, docking station, and charger. Fortunately, the spare parts from the second one were more than adequate to bring it up to its full potential.

Oh, and Office Depot sold us a WiFi CF card for 9 bucks, so now they go online too.

EDIT: Oh yeah, also got an IR keyboard for it for 10 bucks, and a Targus-branded one for 17, which also included a ruggedized serial I/O CF card, another charging adapter, and a case for it all.
