and then they'll either feel stupid and not ask for details, or ask you to explain what you actually believe
I get the exact same reaction from saying I'm agnostic.
And what are you going on about, saying I don't know what agnosticism is?

no one that calls themselves an agnostic knows what the word means. there is no fence on which you can sit.

I said they are commonly referred to as fence sitters, not that I call them that. Agnostics believe anything is possible, so you can't rule out anything. An agnostic can be on any part of the evolution-creationism spectrum, excluding being all the way to one side. I'm basically a typical atheist, except I believe creationism is possible.

Because not all people fit into those three rigid categories.
Scurry, scurry, Scurryous! You might just be the murriest. You certainly are the furriest! Hurry! Scurry! Scurryous!

Lol segovia. Agnostics can learn towards any side they want. I'm not completely atheist, I just have most of the same beliefs as one.

there isn't. you aren't paying close attention, so I will spell it out:

you can either be a theist, or an atheist. that is because the etymological definition of an atheist is someone that is not a theist. Now, the idea of "faith" means that you accept the belief that god exist despite the fact that there may not be "proof" for the existence of god (and the same for atheists). In admitting that there is a possibility that your belief on whether or not god exists may be wrong (ie, if you're a theist, and you admit that god MAY not exist, even though you do have faith that god does exist), you are an agnostic.
agnosticism is not a third option, it is a modifier for atheist or theist.

Lol I felt the same way when Sticks suggested that I was an Agnostic Theist.

I don't have faith in god, I just believe any god has the possibility of existence. Are you saying that makes me not agnostic?
