Has anyone ever pulled it off? That was what got Napoleon the first time."Hey everybody. The fight with England is going so well I figured we would back away from that and go invade this huge frozen wasteland that has millions of soldiers ready to fight. Also don't bother bringing your winter coats and hats. I don't think it will take very long to conquer them"

Technically, they began in the summer. Fighting just kinda dragged on into the winter.That's the genius of invading Russia, especially in the Winter. It's such a bad idea, nobody ever expects it.Has anyone ever pulled it off? That was what got Napoleon the first time."Hey everybody. Didn't Hitler's invasion start a couple months earlier than Napoleon's had? I seem to remember he was aware of Napoleon's mistake and tried to compensate for it. And really, if you're going to take over all of Europe, you pretty much have to take on Russia sooner or later.Technically, they began in the summer. I can't quite recall when either started precisely, but there was some form of delay, I believe Hitler kept putting it off, though I can't recall why, and then, against advice from his generals, he invaded a bit too late. He did catch the Russians by surprise though, Stalin was too much of an idiot to realize what was happening, even though intelligence kept coming in warning of an invasion, and troop build-ups. The last shipments of supplies from Russia to Germany (under the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact) came in after the invasion had started.Didn't Hitler's invasion start a couple months earlier than Napoleon's had?
