<span style='color:blue'>I can confirm that it ws indeed Charlie Chaplain whom placed either second or third place in a look alike contest. I remember hearing about that incident distincly in a PBS special detailing him.</span>

It was Chaplin indeed, he placed eight in a contest of his own popular character.
