Once again, is it just me, or is Tails the only one who has managed to survive relatively intact with very little author-based self-destruction over the series? I mean, he seems to basically be the same character he was at the beginning, unlike say… Sonic or Shadow or Knuckles. Albeit, I am not a Sonic fan, I'm just asking as an outside observer.

Somewhat. Though he's the most unchanged in the series, Tails has suffered the worst in the fandom. You don't want to know anymore.

Rule 34? Flanderization? Spikeification? Or worse?

I suggest you forget about this conversation.

Okay.

Back to the game at hand: What kind of stuff were they smoking to think that this was a good idea? When it's done right, a dark side works: Dark Jak, Heartless Sora, Devil Trigger Dante and Vergil and Nero. But most of the time, it just feels like a cheap gimmick to make the game "fly" and "hip" and "cool." Word of advice to all the team Sonic members: go back to the basics, back to the stuff that made people fall in love with your games and your characters. And then you can slowly add stuff in. Don't do things just because other people are doing them. Mario has stayed basically the same ever since he was created. Sure, some games use different mechanics and concepts, but there's very little question that the Super Galaxy Mario Mario is the same as Super Mario Brothers Mario. Whereas with Sonic… I don't really get that feeling. Can you imagine if the people behind Mario had decided to imitate Grand Theft Auto or Halo? (Think about the Robot Chicken sketch where Mario and Luigi wound up in Vice City, and then shudder). No one would buy it.

On the other hand, I do respect them for trying to something new with the character. And on a third hand, I wish they would try something that hasn't been done a hundred times before. Okay, rant done.

And general left-outness in the comic. He tends to get shoved out of the comic for several issues at a time, only to be brought back for a scene or two.

And in fanfics, he's often paired with Sonic or Shadow, or even Knuckles *SHUDDERS*...

Okay, no one wants to play as some bastardized furry version of Sonic.
THIS POST MAKES NO SENSE.

I thought Sonic already had an emo evil side that everybody hated.
Actually, I read that Shadow placed second only to Sonic in popularity in a survey about Sonic-verse characters.
Leave me to my delusions.

I thought he was talking not about the furries but about people who get turned on by them. Though thats not a race either.

ANyway, it's sad that they keep trying to "reinvent" Sonic and they don't realize the gold mind of a simple Sonic game with Sonic, Tails and Knuckles right in front of their faces
