I have a terrible fear of walking across ice, which is made worse by the fact that the road to my bus stop is pretty much one solid sheet of ice from December to February, as are the sidewalks. To help alleviate this, I just purchased a pair of the most expensive boots on ShoeBuy.com.
With my 25% member discount, the price came down to a bit less than I paid for the O&M print.
ICE!

The schools in my area change their minds about ten times before reaching a final decision, so kids just don't bother showing up on snowy days. Icy ones sort of fall into the same category.

Several years ago (might have been a decade or more), one night ALL of the news stations were predicting that the snow equivalent of the Perfect Storm was coming, that we would wake up to several FEET of snow. Schools (including mine) all canceled next day's classes THAT EVENING, in advance.
You can... probably guess where this is going.
Woke up the next morning, no snow. At all. Storm went out to sea. But you can't very well "uncancel" classes, so we all enjoyed a day off with truly lovely weather and no shoveling.

"Uncancelling"
We've had the same sort of thing happen, only they did "uncancel" classes. Nobody showed up. (*setgrumblemutter=* "what-the-heck-are-you-talking-about-you-losers you-can't-just 'uncancel' the-*yerf*ing-classes-in-the-middle-of-the-*yerf*ing-day- and-expect-the-*yerf*ing-kids-to-come-in- when-their-parents-have-already-taken-them-to-work-or-gotten-babby-sitters- or-whatever-you-*yerf*ing-idiots..." *endgrumblemutter*)Woke up the next morning, no snow. Something similar happened here a couple of years ago. Except it was Hurricane Rita that didn't do anything instead of lack of snow. And it was four days of canceled classes instead of one.Several years ago (might have been a decade or more), one night ALL of the news stations were predicting that the snow equivalent of the Perfect Storm was coming, that we would wake up to several FEET of snow. Would have been great if the power didn't go off for God knows what reason.
Who sleeps shall awake, greeting the shadows from the sun
Who sleeps shall awake, looking through the window of our lives
Waiting for the moment to arrive...
Show us the silence in the rise,
So that we may someday understand...
