Forgive my previous post, I've been having a bad day. Which is unusual for me.

Well I'm sorry if it looked like I refused to take the thread seriously but I just don't have anything to contribute to this thread as far as critiquing, since I have never even attempted to record a guitar/vocal before. I really don't know enough about recording to have anything worth saying about it. Musically, it's your art, express yourself as you like. I listened to your stuff. It's not my kind of music, but it was all good in its own light. I know you put your soul into this stuff and this is your thread and all. People aren't trying to be dismissive, they just don't have a lot to say because it's hard to critique stuff like this. You shouldn't take it personally.

I actually really enjoyed your music. I really like One Day. I haven't gotten around to listening to all of them yet, but I can already tell that you have quite some talent.

EDIT: Also, I just listened to Another Day Under The Sun, which I love, because I really like those sorta songs.

This is a message from the church of what's happening now:

In other words, I done writed two more songs. I don't expect anyone to comment in-depth, but if anyone wants to say "you suck" then go ahead :D

Hell's Gate Bridge - Sort of my own take on "Gates Of Eden", but with Hell instead of Heaven...

Peekaboo - Basically a big dumb Green Day song played badly on an acoustic guitar... :wag:

Cheers.

Not bad. Some happy go lucky guitar playing in there that I could listen to quite happily.

Vocally, sure, whatever. I've heard worse.

I'd listen to more of them but your site causes my browser to hiccup.
Thither

Very nifty guitar work there, definitely. Although I can't discern too well the quality of your voice - because of the recording quality - there's something about it I don't like. It sounds strained in places and flat in others, like you're singing from the throat rather than the chest.

Don't be discouraged though, I am with rabid_fox in saying that I've heard far worse.

EDIT: Listening again, I'd say you need to breathe more often and make sure you pronounce each syllable loudly, especially on the ends of lines. You have a tendency to trail off on the last couple of syllables on some of the lines; for example in the line "as you beg somebody for the answer", you lose the last syllable.

I'm a throat singer, just that I've always had trouble playing and singing at the same time when I'm on my own. With a band, I can sing properly :wag:

This is a message from the church of what's happening now:

More songage, including two instrumentals so you don't hhave to listen to my tuneless northern twang :D

Big News In Our Small Town - Song about revisiting your hometown after living away...pretty sad, and an incredible Iron & Wine rippoff :D

J's Song - Song I wrote for a friend, based on what I'd feel in the position he and his partner have found themselves in...that and I seem to be doing a really bad Dave Grohl impression in this'un.

I Blame Thatcher - An old song from my high-school punk band days that I finally finished...imagine it with a drum kit and bass and it's better...

Cheesecake Can Only Bring You Happiness - A little riff I messed around with for a bit. I like it.

Sulfur City Soundtrack - A somewhat freestyle instrumental based around the drop C# tuning...named after the local nickname for a town near where I'm from.

Cheers.

I love your northern twang, Roo. Big News In Our Small Town is lovely, but the background noise is a bit distracting.

Very good stuff. Your music has this sorta light, Bob Dylan-y flavor to it that I just love, but you still have this awesome range.

I think my favorite, so far, is Big News In Our Small Town, with Sunflower coming in a very close second.

Big News In Our Small Town is a very nice song. I like it, and your voice is perfect for it.

Cheers guys :D

Big News took ages to write, so I'm glad people like it.

Also, the rain and cars in the background are there simply because the original guitar line was recorded in the back of my friend's car, so they're actually real...and I sorta liked it so I kept them. I might re-record it without the rain at some point.
