Hip-hop can be good. Take Dan Le Sac Vs. Scroobius Pip for example. Two white, british guys taking a shot at it. It's pretty good imo.
I knew you'd mention them. They can be good though, I agree.

Not much of a hip hop fan myself however.

Like KRS and Rakim use passion and heart

Yeah, thats what I'm talking about. That is a much better approach at the genre than any mainstream Hip-hop artist would take, and its no surprise that they're much better; and that was after me youtubeing 2 songs. I'll look up more of their stuff when I get the chance.
