Words weren't valid foodstuffs at Gettysburger and they're not valid foodstuffs now.

As a US citizen living abroad, I can sadly say that this is an alarmingly common impression of Americans.

I wouldn't define ignorance as stupidity, I'd say it's more is the inability to comprehend information or the acceptance of knowledge that is fundamentally flawed based on that which one already has.

If the question were "How many sides does a Klein bottle have?", then "one" would have been correct.

(I own a three-dimensional glass representation of a Klein bottle. No, that's not a picture of it.)
