My first attempt at writing punk rock lyrics...

When did Stiff Little Fingers play acoustic on their early stuff?
Whoops I misread that. o:

If you want a punk band to be big, switch one guitar for an acoustic and sing in an Irish accent.

Worked for Flogging Molly, Against Me, and Captain Tractor.
See, the problem with them is that they're all hideous.

Pfft. You got authentic Irish punk in his thread anyway. Shite, but authentic.

Good times, I tell you, good times. I may write the 90's indie version of the lyrics when I'm reunited with my guitars again.

I could see They Might Be Giants maybe having a song with these lyrics.

As for tune and instrumentation... I'm so out of touch with what "punk rock" means anymore. Any popular punk rock songs I might be familiar with but not realize they're punk rock?

I'm a semi-fan of SLF; but I'm a bigger fan of the Pogues and Dubliners.

Not nearly enough lyrics. If TMBG did this song, it'd be 27 seconds long.

Over here, Pogues and Dubliners albums get sold for a pittance from bargain basement bins in garage (gas station) shops, alongside "Pan Pipe Classics" and "Debbie Does Disco, Volume 17".

We're very good at exporting our dross to the rest of the world, I can tell you.

That's about their average song length.

"Theme From Flood" - 28 seconds.
"Toddler Hiway" - 26 seconds.
"My Other Car is a Boom Car" - 29 seconds.

Closest I could find for 27 second TMBG songs.

You're forgetting all the Fingertips.

Ah! See, Apollo 18 in the UK didn't have 'Fingertips' as separate tracks, rather, as one long, strange song. Which They now play live and that I've done a folk cover of.

Not forgotten, just recategorised.

I also should draw attention to the 'acoustic-screamo' cover of 'Birdhouse in your Soul' on the same page.

Good times.

That wasn't screamo. That was like... shout-o.

Still pretty rockin' though. Rockin' and mockin'.

I got boo'ed off a stage at an open-mic night when I staggered up in a drunken haze and belted out my best 'Birdhouse' to a crowded bar.

In an odd twist of fate, I didn't have to buy any more drinks for myself for the rest of the night.
