Well, that's quite... interesting...

can you really ban someone for being pretentious or smug?
I can ban whomever I want, and for any reason.
That sounds a little.. power-hungry... doesn't it?

In my eyes, that sounds like you'd ban someone for having views opposite of yours.
Uh huh

Didn't you ever learn the difference between "can" and "will"?

Yes, and "can" still means that there is a "possibility".

So, to be honest, my original sentence:

"That sounds a little.. power-hungry... doesn't it?"

still stands.

Darn, I can't tell if that's a sarcastic "uh huh" or an agreeing "uh huh".

Technically, Jason does have the ability to ban anyone. He can simply load the admin panel, select an account, and set the status to "Banned". Therefore, he CAN ban, as he has the capability, but WILL he ban is the question.

Why people here can't stand you:
{ Many many quotes }
I never said you had to like me, did I?
If you go around having problems like that with every person you come across in life, you're not going to get much out of the experience, are you?
Shut up and get out.

Frankly, I'm not usually one to jump in on this kind of stuff, I mean, I've had my arguments with others here before, but really, even this thread apologizing for acting arrogant displays disconcerting amounts of pretentiousness. You seem to essentially be saying that you're sorry that you're smarter than we laymen, rather than acknowledging that you are in fact acting the part of a pompous fool.
Oh, so I can't apologise well enough for you now?

Perhaps I should reiterate: I'm sorry for causing problems here; I am not sorry for who I am (a generally jaded misanthrope). I am saying I'm willing to look people in the eye and deal with them on equal terms; not that I'll roll over and show you my belly as a sign of unbounded submission.
I don't expect people to like me. I might as well expect pigs to sprout wings and fly away if that were the case, and I honestly don't care any more.
I just expect civility and will give it in return.

I am here because I happen to like the Simp's comic, and this was the linked forum. Simple as that. Much as I'm sure some folks here would like a say in who does or does not get to be a fan of the comic, ultimately there will be some people who like the comic too that they don't get on with. That is the way of life.

So.... to return to my point... I apologised for precisely what I intended to apologise for, and you can take it however the heck you like.

In case you see this before your inevitable and well-deserved banning Soti, the long post made by Dos is what Ruedii was like, hence it's why I called you Ruedii part 2. Of course, he almost wrecked the forum with his crap and you won't get that chance.
Just a question: but are you always this bitter and miserable? I'm not suggesting I could help you, as I'm sure you wouldn't accept any help from me. I'm not suggesting I pity you, as I really don't care enough for that... But honestly, I don't really know you, and all I can determine from first impressions is that you're a bitter person who really seems to dislike me... which is only slightly ironic because I bare you no ill feeling at all. Sorry.

In all seriousness, might you have Asperger's syndrome? It would account for some of this.
I already announced that I'm Aspergian in another thread. I'm a fully diagnosed, paper-baring and proud Aspergian.... yes.
As far as I can tell I'm also second-generation Aspergian. That is to say I have reason to believe my mother was too... so if you ever needed something to point your finger at and say "that is why he acts that way"... there you go.

That sounds a little.. power-hungry... doesn't it?

In my eyes, that sounds like you'd ban someone for having views opposite of yours.
Most forum admins from my experience are like that, and I have a tendency to aggravate them more than anyone else.
See... people generally become administrators because they want to have power over people. They want control. If something comes along they don't like, they're generally quick to hit it with the admin-stick.
And what they hate most of all is people who don't acknowledge them as "authority": people who don't look up to them and consider them alpha.

I have been banned from no less than three forums in the past soley for the reason that I treated the staff (mods and admins both) as equals rather than superiors... In one of the cases it was because I pointed out that the staff weren't following their own board-rules but instead holding themselves above it.
And I expect I will be banned from many more in future...

That said... I have also been a member of a few forums where the staff were fair and followed the rules... and where the administrators were impartial.... and generally I hung around in such places for a VERY long time, and was generally an important part of the community after a while, in as much as I could be.

What it all comes down to though is that administrators are people too, and more often than not are driven by personal desires more than justice. We can't hold it against them for imposing their will like a dictatorship if that is their way.... but it always makes for a refreshing change when they do not.

As someone who knows Jason fairly well, I can say that that description does not fit him at all. Except the part about him being a person. He's a person.

As a fellow Asperger's-diagnosed, I can understand SotiCoto a little bit. For us, It's somewhat difficult to see form other people's points of view. When we read our own posts, we see them as we would see them, not as others would. Seeing things as others would see them is a much more difficult task, one I've been working on my entire life.

People say "God, you're annoying." I have to work to figure out what it is at the time that is so annoying. At this point in time, I can usually figure it out.

In other words, if we try to look at ourselves from the outside, we see from our own eyes into ourselves. It's kind of like merely looking in a mirror. We think the way we do, and have difficulty thinking other ways.

mine, a shaker or two may
yield the best result.)

Here's a tip, Soti: You may not expect people to like you... but try. Otherwise, don't be surprised that you're not welcome.

To all the people hating Jason and stuff, if you knew him you'd know that on IRC he's not arrogant. We can joke and make jokes about him and he'll shrug it off. I've never seen him as thinking himself "more equal" than others.
But I'm pretty sure you'll now think/say, "well of course you'd defend him, he made you a moderator."

Just throwing this 'un out there.

If a specific member causes frequent or repeated cases of unrest at a forum, for whatever reason, that is grounds for banning. It's why Reudii was banned. So regardless whether or not you care about what others think, you have to care a little, since too much adversity towards you won't turn out good for anyone.

Yeah, yeah, I'm not a moderator or admin or anything, but I've been around the internets long enough to know this.

And those who are calling Jason a power whore (mostly you Priest), all I can say is that you don't know him at all. I've talked to him many times one on one on IRC or otherwise, for some years, while you haven't spoke to him at all. He's not that kind of guy. Gawd.

***Is this an example of forum unrest? Probably. It's been a lot more hostile here in the last few days.

I simply mean to say that apologizing with arrogance about having been arrogant is rather ineffectual. You seem to enjoy critiquing others, yet you simply lash out at any criticism directed at yourself.
You can be happy that you apologized, but what was the point if it didn't improve anything?
I'd be happy to let all this slide, as I'm sure many other people would also, if you ceased acting this way by avoiding too much critiquing of others. I understand the issues pertaining to Asperger's but all the same, understand that the world is seen from many perspectives, and your's isn't necessarily superior to any other.
