Favourite Christmas Song?

Postby baloki » Thu Dec 06, 2007 10:57 am

It was christmas eve babe
In the drunk tank
An old man said to me, wont see another one
And then he sang a song
The rare old mountain dew
I turned my face away
And dreamed about you

Got on a lucky one
Came in eighteen to one
Ive got a feeling
This years for me and you
So happy christmas
I love you babby
I can see a better time
When all our dreams come true

Theyve got cars big as bars
Theyve got rivers of gold
But the wind goes right through you
Its no place for the old
When you first took my hand
On a cold christmas eve
You promised me
Broadway was waiting for me

You were handsome
You were pretty
Queen of new york city
When the band finished playing
They howled out for more
Sinatra was swinging,
All the drunks they were singing
We kissed on a corner
Then danced through the night

The boys of the nypd choir
Were singing galway bay
And the bells were ringing out
For christmas day

Youre a bum
Youre a punk
Youre an old slut on junk
Lying there almost dead on a drip in that bed
You scumbag, you maggot
You cheap lousy faggot
Happy christmas your arse
I pray God its our last

I could have been someone
Well so could anyone
You took my dreams from me
When I first found you
I kept them with me babe
I put them with my own
Cant make it all alone
Ive built my dreams around you

I'm a big fan of so-called "novelty" Christmas songs. You know, the joke ones. Like "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer", Weird Al's "Christmas at Ground Zero," and almost anything by the Bob Rivers Comedy Group. I even managed to write my own one time, which to this day stands as the least-sucky song I've ever written, lyrically.

Ah, Christmas season, that one time of year when I'll actively avoid every radio I can.

I like classic German Christmas songs. O Tannenbaum, Stille Nacht, Leise rieselt der schnee, just to name a few. :wag: Christmas in Germany is the best. I miss it.

Theres something up the chimney and I don't know what it is
But its been there since last christmas.
I'm gonna wait up for santa like I did last year
But my brother says... he's already here
And that he's stuck up in the chimney and he doesn't make a sound
And he'll be with us every christmas!
Doo da doo doo doo da doo doo
That which does not kill me, cripples me for life.

My favorite, without question:

I usually avoid lots of things that are playing music. Most of the time it's music I don't want to hear. :/

Hm, just the opposite for me.

Anyway, I think mine is "Star of Wonder" as performed by Sufjan Stevens.

I'll have to admit most of those apply to me too. (Including Mariah, yes, sorry for those of you who actually have good taste in music. I thought it was hilarious when it was featured in that episode of "On the Moon.") Adding to that any Christmas song by Manheim Steamroller or the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

I've always been partial to Carol of the Bells (especially Will Vinton's Claymation Christmas version *laughs* very funny) and some of the classics. I also like some of the parodies, such as the Bob Rivers stuff. And I find myself convulsing as I listen to the same country versions of the same songs for the thousandth time at work.
I'm a big techno fan. I've also been overexposed to country, so I hate it even if I would have liked it anyway.
Somehow, I've ended up with Hanson, *NSync, Bob Rivers, Jingle Cats (2 actually), and Jingle Dogs CD's. As soon as I figure out who's responsible, they're getting the Christmas mauling of a lifetime. Or maybe a fruitcake. That would work, too. Mwahaha*yerf*hahaha!!!

I concur, it's the best Christmas song ever.
