Yeh, the very meek usually get nowhere in life. Usually.
B-but Jesus assured me that the meek shall inherit the Earth?
They will. Uhh, if that's alright with you... I mean... well, I guess they will... maybe... I dunno... would be nice...

That is it, Mr. Corwin! You have offended the last customer by your drunkeness and worked your last Christmas in my store! You are fired! Now take off that hat and return those red rags you call a suit to wherever you got them from!"

"...Thank you very much Mr. Dundee. As to my drinking as Santa Claus, this is indefensible and you have my abject apologies. But you wanna know why I drink? I find of late that it's my only way of expressing emotions; if I didn't drink, I'd weep. ...I find drinking is so much more subtle.

But as for my insubordination; I was not rude to that woman! Someone should remind her that Christmas is more than barging up and down department store aisles and pushing people out of the way. Someone has to tell her that Christmas is another thing, finer than that. Richer. Finer. True-er. It should come with patience and love. Charity. Compassion. That's what I would have told her if she had given me the chance."

"Oh really, Corwin? And how do you expect people to live up to these standards of yours?"

"I don't know, Mr. Dundee, I don't know at all. All I know is that I'm an aging, purposeless relic of another time, and I live in a dirty rooming house on a street filled with hungry kids and shabby people, and the only thing that comes down the chimney on Christmas Eve is more poverty!

You know another reason why I drink, Mr. Dundee? So that when I walk down the tenements, I can really think it's the North Pole, and the children are elves, and that I'm really Santa Claus bringing them a bag of wondrous gifts, for all of them!

-I just wish, Mr. Dundee, on one Christmas -only one!- that I could see some of the hopeless ones and the dreamless ones... just on one Christmas, I'd like to see the meek inherit the Earth. That's why I drink, Mr. Dundee. And that's why I weep."

That's what he said before I kicked sand in his face and took his girlfriend.

I think those people who say school was the worst time of their lives need to spend a few more years trying to make it on their own to appreciate how easy they had it when young.
I moved out on my own at 18 and am now 30, how much more time trying to make it on my own do I need before I'm allowed to speak my mind?

Well I suppose you're better off if you think so. For me school, despite the occasional bullying, was the best days of my life so far. Not every year or time obviously, but a good chunk of it.

I certainly enjoyed parts of being in school, like the social aspect (even though I'm a geek).
High school was nice, but college was great, because everyone there was there to actually learn and have a positive experience. Plus they were paying to attend, which may have had something to do with their good behavior.
(Or maybe I had just gotten to the point of "too weird to bully" by then.) :ozy:
