TOPIC: Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis

The Poem:

As communication goes,
Words will ebb and flow,
Do we really, truly know,
What we want to show?

We have some words in mind,
We are, however, blind,
Thoughts aren't always kind,
But the message gets defined.

We speak a thought we want,
We hear the mental font,
Imagination takes a jaunt,
Next thing you know, avaunt!

So we are forced to try again,
In our worn out mental playpen,
We speak fresh words, and then,
Misunderstood! We count to ten!

We know we can get it right,
We won't give up, we fight,
We ponder over this blight,
Soon it will be alright!

We try just one more time,
We add just a bit of mime.
Message understood, sublime!
(Just in the nick of time!)

I trust that you didn't post the poem drunk, or I'd expect a lot of errors.

Your trust is misplaced, for I wrote the poem AND posted it within maybe a half hour from it's birth. In fact, I wrote it in the 'post new topic' box, line by line!
(Plus I had 8 tabs open, too. A few for research to make sure my facts were straight (I was drunk LOL), a couple for spelling, and a couple in wiki!)

All the best poetry was written when either drunk, stoned or both. A surprising number of famous poets were opium addicts.

So yeah, not bad.

When I learned of a theory of Shakespeare's addiction, I remembered his sonnet line "Lilies that fester smell far worse than weeds." Maybe he left off the last S at first.
