First one I've done in four months. I think it's my best yet. It's certainly my most professionally executed. Its destiny is to be my Mom's Christmas present, which she's rather happy about.
Like all paintings, the photograph messes it up somewhat. Anyway, a painting like this needs a cool name. Something short that I can use to title similar paintings to follow, a la I, II, XVII, etc.
21"x16" acrylic on stupid cheap Bristol board.

And here I am cursing my workplace computer for blocking certain sites... especially those that host images... >_<;

I'll make a positive comment when I can get home and actually see it for myself... ^_^;;

Yeah me too. Except I'm at school, not work.

Looks like something I'd hang on my wall. Upside down, of course.

How did you create such smooth lines? I pained myself to just paint my "Serenity Vs The Bomb" and it never came out as well as yours.

Ah, well, there's a trick to that. The magician will now reveal his secrets!

Removable contact paper. You know, sticky plastic sheeting that peels off paper easily. You just cut it into the desired shapes (with a penknife), stick it on your painting surface, and paint over it. There are all sorts of wonderful things you can do with it. That's also how I make my precise little geometric shapes, painting through a hole cut in a bit of sticky paper as a mask.

You can buy it at the grocery store. It's used for covering shelves and stuff. Just be sure to get only the removable kind, obviously. There are different brands, and some are better than others. Mostly, it's not a good idea to use the stuff in hot weather, because then the adhesive gets all gooey. Not a big problem up here. :D
*Is watching siblings sledding down the little hill outside his window.*

Basically, it's one of those things you have to experiment with. One can also cut a paper stencil, but then you have to be really careful, and even then you're almost guaranteed to get a big blob of paint somewhere bad. Waterproof plastic masking is the way to go. (Except for ink. With an ink roller and ink pads, you can use paper masking with no problems. Haven't done that in years, tho.)

Oh, and another bit of advice: never, ever use solvent to try and remove mistakes. It will burn a hole in your cheap Bristol board and force you to drastically crop your piece to remove the damaged area. ;)
