Not exactly house rules quality, but I'm open to critiques (be gentle ) of my first try. The WORST part of this was trying to color in all the pixels along the lines and tops of the last two panels (where I gave up), and redoing Ozy's arm in the third panel. Also, I wasn't quite sure on how to color Isolde soaking in mercury, or how her hair would manage to stay out of it All this was done in mspaint, and took about an hour. You'll find the original in the archives at August 2004.

Very nice! Hm, I'd like to try coloring one. Maybe I shall.

Hm, I'd say you made a pretty good effort there, and it's a good colorization... Yeah, you've got the occasional flaw here and there, but overall it's not too bad. <img src='

Traysandor, where did I go wrong? lol, I just posted this so I could get a baseline on what I do right/wrong.

By the way, you may refer to me as Miles, that is my formal name around here <img src='

Of course Isolde's Shiny Mercury Silver color would be a hard thing to match in all likelyhood, you don't have to perfect it.

You might want to check out the "methods" section of the "House Rules" site:

<a href='

http://lupinia.us/houserules/methods.htm

I can tell you Caigan's put more left-brain thought into coloring than I ever have. (I have the advantage of being able to color the high-res originals; Caigan's worked out some startlingly good methods of coloring the resized versions that appear on the site.)

Pretty good for using Paint.

A tip: pay attention to some of the methods Caigan uses. A major thing to consider is closing "open" speech bubbles, such as the one in the center panel.

This is very difficult to do well in MSPaint. But everyone has to start somewhere, don't they?

And, just for the heck of it, here's some early (1998) strips I colored a few weeks back.

<img src='

Given the technology used, I think that was far better than anyone could expect on a technical side. After a recent discussion on a completely unrelated forum (actually, a discussion on the technical merits of the teaser trailer of the new series of doctor who where someone managed to come to the conclusion that blue and yellowy orange clashed. Somehow) I'm trying and stay out of the artistic aspects of colour selection, so I'm not commenting on that.

I think it's quite well done for MS Paint, just clean out the edges a little I'd suggest.

And people, you have to realise some of us don't have Photoshop. Well, I don't anyway.

Well, I actually looked for the comic where Isolde appears in color (The one with the big space-needle-thingie in the background dated aug30 2004) which took a LITTLE bit of searching Lmao if you open up paint or something and compare the colors using the edit colors, you'll notice the colors are something like 3 shades off. Granted, the colored Izolde has shading, which I'll eventually get into...oh well. I DID read a bit into Caigan's methods page, which will really help when I find a better image editor to use. As for the odd background colors, I wasn't sure at ALL what to put; a friend told me the cartoons were cute, so I picked 2 completely random pastel colors to use. As for the bright blue..Well, my color coodination is a BIT off if you haven't noticed X_X

Not all that bad... some of you browsing the rest of the Define Cynical site might have noticed my first coloring of Millie there (animated no less)

The tail and motion lines had to be split, repaired, colored, aligned, and recomposed in Paint to make the frames of this animation. True, I did go over to Corel Photo Paint, but only to combine the images into an animated GIF. I think I did okay, but there are still specks here and there now that I look at it.
