Dude, there is NOTHING wrong with copying DC at first. I mean, look at my strip! You can see the influences right there, but after a while you start to develop your own style.Yeah i know i can draw *cough* well *cough* but one prob , im stuck drawing my stuff in DCS's style XDChris...
Stop putting yourself down, you draw well. I told you before you only get better thru practice.
youre on the right track...just keep at it.
When I first started cartooning, I kept looking at O+M to see the facial expressions that I should copy. But after about 6 months you start learning them. Also, the stronger your characters, the less you start relying on other people's work as references and more on your own thoughts. My characters have taken lives of their own, and I keep just knowing what they'd say in any given situation.
So don't put yerself down, because all the greats copied someone. I mean, DC will tell you that he started by copying Calvin and Hobbes, and just look at how far he's come now!
*note* not that I imply I am great in any way, shape, form, or smell.

D.C. used to draw the upper eyelid too. Chris probably likes that version better, as do I. Like you said, the other way tends to look "evil." (Actually I think it looks like the half-closed eyes of a cat more than anything.)
Although considering there's pie-pouncing involved, the "evil eyes" might be appropriate in this case.
