The second one is fantastic. Love it. Draw more in that style, seriously.
Um, I guess. I actually don't know whats so different :P. I remember just drawing as I usually do with some different shapes in mind. Other than that my insane lust for chaotic line detail is still there XD. Though I think it might have disappeared lately O.o. Or at least partly. I have dozens of new drawings, still pretty detailed but not as much as the pic your referencing.

You are very good at the simplistic cartoon style you used there. You have the expression and general silliness down perfectly. Basically it looks fantastic.

I think it might be that the clothes for the 2nd one make it so he doesn't look super thin like the other stuff.

Sure about wanting them thicker? I don't think it fits a few characters.
