Coloring Shelley
Moderator:Æron
I wasn't aware there was a contest to color shelley. I started it first.

XD Heh, I'm being selfish now. XD

Anyway, I'm about done coloring all the caracters. I just need to color Llewelyn's coat. (Goarsh! Llelewyn is tough to color)

Then I just gotta pick a color for the walls and baseboards, and think about how I want to color the backgrounds without the walls. As for the one with the closeup of shelley, I decided to color the electricky looking arcs. When I get home tonight I'll upload what I have so far.

I have Caigan's color chart. Llewelyn is just a tough character to color, seeing as how I still don't use teh layers and neat tricks you guys do.

When it comes to Ozy or Shelley, I first draw the line that seperates the upper gray face from the lower. Anyone who has paintshop pro 7 knows how crappy the paint can is. If I don't slect an area first, it fills in the entire image. Even once I get it filled in, there are always random pixles that didn't fill in. Then I zoom in and (using the same color I filled in with) color any of the pixles that are a lighter color. I then use the soften tool to blur the barrier between the white and grey face zones a bit, so they seem to fade into eachother more. Then I fill in the ear coloring, and do that zoom in and color individual pixle thing. Next, I draw out the barrier between the white and grey of the hands, fill in the grey, and do the pixle thing. ...yeah, you can see where I'm going...

Using these techniques, it is quite difficult to color Llewelyn. With Ozy and Shelley, they are grey. I only have to color in the pixles whose grey is too far off from the Shelley/Ozy grey. With Llewelyn I have to color every pixle in except for the really dark ones.
Which is why you should use layers with the "Multiply" mode. You can color directly on top of the original image, and the black will not be affected.

I believe that you can apply layer styles (such as Multiply) in Paint Shop Pro.

Here's a visual example:

Indeed, I forgot I also have to finish other parts of Llewelyn. Maybe your right about the line being closer to their eyes. I didn't think I'd done anything wrong with that though. I studied the barrier between the grey and white coloring of Ozy in one of Caigan's colorings. I'll have to look at one of DCS's already colored strips to see about that.

Plus, I got grounded for 3 days from my compy. So theres gonna be a delay before I finish. (Yes, a bigger one than I've made already)

Well, I'd call that a good start, Steve.
