My vote is for Ozymandias' icon, I like that one the best so far...

Ozymandias' Icon:

JPegs = NO
Why use JPegs when a PNG has all the colors you need, and won't mess up your image?

Because PNG isn't as standard of a format. JPEG won't screw it up if you set the quality high enough, it'd still be smaller than a BMP with the same quality.

I always use GIFs. It doesn't mess up your image and it's still relatively small.

(And I vote for Ozy's)

GIFs almost always screw up my images, I use too many colours for them, and they never render my shadows correctly.

JPEG is a lossy format, plain and simple. PNG is better, but there are compatibility issues with it, and is overkill for this task. Since GIF naturally uses 256 colors or less as well as transparency, I'd say that would be the best choice for publishing the icons in some web format here.

In the end, though it makes no difference, and I'd rather people not be too concerned about what format to use since it appears it has to be converted again anyway.

EDIT: Please let me make this clear: It does not matter what format you use to share it here. Don't make this a discussion of what is the best format for an image. If you are concerned about the loss of image quality on a 16x16 icon due to saving to a specific format, save it as you like and post using a different one. If it wins, we can always ask for the original file.

I'm guessing there are no more entries for this, and some have started voting already! I'll set up a poll for this just the same.
If you've done things right, people won't be sure if you've done anything at all.

I'm not really sure.. I was rather surprised by how quickly the poll was put up as well, and would have preferred to have some set date announced.. As it is though, it's kind of late to do anything. If we edit the poll, would that clear all the votes?
