I believe it's mainly so there's more room for the facial features more/better able to show expression; the eyes and mouth.Yeah I've noticed, I just wonder why that kind of artistic norm developed in Japan.Anime noses tend to be really small.This is not meant as a criticsm but, are noses taboo when drawing anime.
